hey guys!

just an update! I did two presentations today at a local middle school here in rothesay. They were my first two presentations ever, and they worked out perfectly! I'm so happy with how everything worked out, and everyone seemed so inspired. A lot of kids came up to me after wanting to start human rights clubs or get involved with TIG. It was personally inspiring, as well. I hope everything is well with you guys.

Love always,

Meg

A Quiet Battle : Stand Up Against Poverty

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Sitting under a roof, using a laptop while watching TV, one would never assume there are others lying on the streets, suffering, and helpless.
The circle of poverty is historic, yet passive canadians seem not to react nonetheless. As Canadians, most of us are most definately charitable, but are quite uninformed. Especially in the maritimes, the majority of us are not exposed to the realities of poverty, and this issue surely hits close to home. After joining TIG, even I have realized the level of ignorance one can maintain. It may seem far fetched to imagine homelessness children or dying individuals right in your city, but it's there. Although it may be hidden, as the unwealthy individuals aren't exposed in society-- they are weaved in between the lines of reality and what we want to see as citizens. Beginning my new work at the Teen Resource Centre, I have realized the true effect of poverty on a city, and the world as a whole.
Although most of us do not personally see the true effects of poverty, they are real. People are suffering, and people do need help. We have to face up to the fact that out cities aren't perfect , and although the global community is great as a whole, improvements need to be made. Change is possible and people need our help.

This is where we start. Keep showing your support, keep communicating, and never give up.

Love always,

Meg

Thoughts

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Speaking to individuals who are across the world, facing true conflict, I have personally found the real underlying goal and hope of TakingItGlobal. In using technology to communicate with those who we cannot physically meet, I have truly realized the effect what we, as humanatarians have on the world. If people are risking their lives to defend the rights of others in their own communities, how can't I sit here safely and be the voice for those who can't speak themselves? So many people actually need us over here in Canada, and I don't think we, as safe Canadians, have realized the significance we have towards others. Every act we do really does have meaning, and every letter we write really does go somewheres. Why give up when there is still so much hope? Why let down when you have found out that what you do really does have meaning? TIG has showed me this. So get involved, write to people, connect with others from far away. What you say really does mean everything. Your letters really are effective. I've personally discovered that for myself. Now, go do the same. The world is waiting, and you can change it.

Together, we WILLmake a difference.

quick update

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to give you guys all an update again!
Today all of the CLCers had a meeting over Elluminate, and we seem to be making a lot of progress! I went into the TRC today and I have contacted the Boys and Girls Club, and I am going to start doing Change That Clicks Workshops over there. I also asked some of the youths opinions on what they thought we should do for Climate Change Action Day on December 7th, and ideas are flying. I'm so excited to be doing all of this fun stuff, and if you guys have any suggestions of things I should be doing, let me know!

Love always,

Meg
